A pair of silver and vermeil double salt cellars in the shape of a basket and in imitation of wickerwork, the two-compartment interior is vermeiled. Engraved below the body are the coats of arms under a closed crown of House Howard, the Earls Stafford and the motto AB STULIT QUI DEDIT". Master goldsmith: François Joubert, received on September 6, 1749 Paris, 1750-1756 Diameter : 9.5 cm. Weight : 316 g. Provenance The arms are those of House Howard, of the Earls Stafford. This is a younger branch of the Dukes of Norfolk. They were probably made for Elizabeth Mary Michael Ewens (died 1783), widow of John Paul Stafford-Howard, 4th Earl Stafford and 5th Baron Stafford (1700-1762).
