"Wood engravings by old masters" printed from original plates in the Derschau collection, owned by the Berlin State Print Office. Edited by Max J. Friedländer, Leipzig. 1922. Introduction by Max J. Friedländer, a collection of 40 matted mounts of woodcuts by 15th- and 16th-century old masters, originally assembled by Hans Albrecht von Derschau, and subsequently enriched by the collection of Wilibald Pirckheimer and other sources. Set of 53 plates presented in 40 original mounts in 4 very worn cardboard boxes of 10 mounts each with title and descriptive leaflet (small tears, foxing, folds on these leaflets or the title), copy N° 57 (from an edition of 130 copies). The set includes engravings by A. Altdorfer, Beham,H. Burgkmair, Durer (including the large plate of Christ on the Cross between three angels), P. Flötner, M. Lorch, E. Schön, W. Traut or artists of the German school, providing a good overview of the great masters of German woodcutting of the 15th and 16th centuries, some of whose plates are known only through Derschau prints. Some wavy folds, printing folds, minor foxing, some proofs a little yellowed on verso, some have a trace on the margins a little yellowed. Box dimensions: 65 x 50 cm by 3.5cm.
