Jules VERNE. - Lot 18
Jules VERNE. Around the world in 80 days. After Jules Verne. J.J. [Jules-Joseph Jeanson]. (Paris, circa 1895) / JJF, circa 1904). Cardboard box, size 33.5 x 25.5 x 4 cm. Color lithograph, glued to the lid, signed Ludovic, presenting five episodes from the novel. The interior is partitioned and includes: a cardboard board, folded in four, with a color lithograph (game board) on the front; two dice (one with a red ace, the other with a blue ace); tokens; six painted lead characters (Phileas Fogg, Passepartout, Francis Cromaty, Miss Aouda, Detective Fix, a customs officer and a soldier). Ruler (addressed J. J.) glued to back of lid. Chasing game modelled on the game of the goose. The first 42 squares, rectangular with a domed top, are arranged around the edges of the board; squares 43 to 76, narrower and slightly trapezoidal, are arranged in a circle around the central globe; the last four squares (Vue de Londres, La demande en mariage, Au Reform-Club, Le retour - Messieurs, je vous salue) are more developed and occupy the four corners between the two rows of squares. One of the course games adapted from Jules Verne's book, complete in its box. This is the first version of the game, which was jointly operated by JJ (Jules-Joseph Jeanson) and MD (Mauclair Dacier); MD was later bought out by JJF (Jeux et Jouets Français), who operated the fund: this game is an example, with the JJF trademark appearing in the lower left-hand corner of the lithograph on the cover. In fine condition, but one of the characters has lost his head.
