Nansen's voyage to the North Pole. - Lot 5
Nansen's voyage to the North Pole. (S[imonin] C[uny], Editor, Paris. ca. 1900). Hardback board Format 30.5 x 39.5, foldable in two. Chromolithography on front. Game board, published shortly after the return of Nansen and the Fram, 1893-1896 expedition. It shows the expedition's route projected onto the map of the polar region in the center of the board; in a large oval at the top are sixteen stations - eight large, eight small - that punctuate the route. The game unfolds in forty squares: sixteen on the illustrated scenes, twenty-four which are simply numbered spaces interspersed between the scenes. Four scenes from the expedition are shown in the corners of the board: the boat in the ice, walking on the pack ice, canoeing among the seals, skiing on the pack ice.
