Luca GIORDANO (Naples 1634 - 1705 Naples) Penitent Magdalene Pen and brown ink, brown wash 15.5 x 11.7 cm Verso: handwritten musical score, with annotations in Italian A subject for which the painter had great affection, to the point of depicting it several times with variations, our Madeleine, executed with a beautiful nervousness, is to be compared with a painted version, now preserved in Mexico City (Museo Soumaya, Carlos Slim Foundation, inv. unknown). We would like to thank Mr. Stefano Causa for confirming, in a letter dated April 2023, the attribution to Giordano after a visual examination of the work.
