Brittany spaniel or Irish setter - Lot 81
Brittany spaniel or Irish setter Charles Théophile DEMORY (1833-1895) Brittany spaniel or Irish setter Oil on panel 23 x 18 cm. Born in Arras, Demory entered the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1855 in Léon Cogniet's studio. A landscape and portrait painter, he took part in the Salon des Artistes Français, notably in 1868 and 1884. Gérald Schurr, in his dictionary of 19th-century painters, refers to his "rather serious art, showing strength, accent and an obvious pleasure in seeing and painting"; our Breton spaniel or Irish setter is no exception to this principle. A familiar figure to the painter, it can be seen in some of his Breton interiors.
