An important testimony to the friendship between the Greffulhe couple and Madame Jacquemart-André, this portrait recalls this anecdote reported by Baron de Bonnault: "In the grand salon [of the Château du Francport], we are going to greet the Marquise de l'Aigle [Louise, née Greffulhe, Henry's sister], who was waiting for the visitors. The walls of this vast room are lined with family portraits, most of them quite recent, in pencil, pastel, watercolor and large oil canvases. The one of the current marquis, signed Nelie Jacquemart, is a souvenir of a tragic accident from which the author and Countess Greffulhe fortunately escaped. After the disaster at the Bazar de la Charité, Nélie Jacquemart, Madame André, wishing to show her gratitude to Madame Greffulhe, took up her brushes, abandoned for twenty years, to offer her friend the portrait of her son-in-law [in fact, her brother-in-law] the Marquis de l'Aigle.
