Early 19th century Finger size : 59 Gross weight: 3.8 g Provenance: - Probably Eléonore Dillon, marquise d'Osmond (1753 - 1831). - Jacquet family, down to Michel Jacquet (1929 - 2016). - French private collection. Historical background : Éléonore Dillon (1753-1831), Marquise d'Osmond by marriage to René d'Osmond (1751-1838), was lady-in-waiting to Madame Adélaïde, daughter of King Louis XV. Her daughter, Adèle d'Osmond (1781-1866), was the playmate of the first dauphin, Louis-Joseph de France (1781-1789). The d'Osmond family followed Louis XVI's aunts into exile in Italy, taking refuge with Queen Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles, sister of Marie-Antoinette. In her Memoirs, Adèle d'Osmond recounts how close she was to King Louis XVI during her childhood at the French court in Versailles. The proximity of the d'Osmond family to various members of the royal family lends credence to the royal origin of this lock of hair.
