Observation game. (France, circa 1940). - Lot 192
Observation game. (France, circa 1940).
Observation game. (France, circa 1940). Cardboard box, size 25.8 x 22 x 5.8 cm, covered with floral paper, oblique title on lid. The inside of the box features a storage space divided into 12 compartments, each containing eight square cards (5 cm square) with a landscape, human, animal or plant drawing on the front. On top of this is a cardboard receptacle holding twelve large cards (24 x 20 cm), the fronts of which are divided into sixteen boxes: eight are illustrated, eight are silent.
Prototype of an observation game for young children, using fairly basic images. Each large card is devoted to an image (a young skier, a flower, a butterfly, etc.) reproduced on eight squares, but each is slightly different from the others: the first is complete, while the other seven are each deprived of an element. These images are matched by small cards that reproduce them identically. Of course, the child must complete the large cards by placing the corresponding small card on top of each image; the over-eager child will not notice the changes in detail.
All the drawings are done in pen and gouache, and the overall effect is very neat.
