Roman history. (France, circa 1900) (Roman history). (France, circa 1900). Wood-cardboard box, size 34 x 38.5 x 5 cm. Chromolithography on the lid: fifteen scenes from Roman history; gilded, embossed frame. The box contains three puzzle boards, size 31.5 x 36 cm. Roman history puzzle. Each of the three boards, glued to wood and cut into jigsaw pieces, is illustrated on the same principle as the lithograph on the lid: fifteen scenes from Roman history in five horizontal rows, each with a caption and a number. The cover plate is not reproduced as a puzzle. These sixty images were used by Poulain chocolate to create advertising cards, chromolithographed and embossed: six series of ten subjects.
