Muhammad ibn Suleyman al-Jazuli (1404 - 1465), Dala'il al-Kh - Lot 301
Muhammad ibn Suleyman al-Jazuli (1404 - 1465), Dala'il al-Khayrat Prayer Book, Ottoman Empire, 19th century Incomplete manuscript on paper with 11 lines of text per page in naskhi Arabic in black ink, some terms in red ink. The text is introduced by a sarlow frontispiece illuminated in gold and polychrome with a frieze of lambrequins surmounting a gilded cartouche, the first lines of text mentioning the author in reserve on a gold background. The following pages are punctuated with illuminations, including gilded discs punctuating the sentences, gilded cartouches introducing the various sections and marginal floral sprays. The text, which begins with an enumeration of the names of the Prophet Muhammad, includes several sections of prayers. It is incomplete, notably lacking the traditional depictions of the sanctuaries of the Ka'aba in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. A few leaves and marginal notes by another hand added later. Flap binding in red morocco with stamped decoration, partially enhanced with gold, of a poly-lobed medallion with a floral double-appendix and spandrels trimmed with vegetal scrolls, the counter-papers and flap covered with ebru marbled paper. Binding dimensions: 14 x 9.5 cm As is, stains, wormholes, missing folios, restorations, wear to binding partly cut out.
