Atelier de moulage du Musée de sculpture comparée (1882-1928), after Hector GUIMARD (1867-1942) Modular decorative plate for the Paris metro Plaster H. 120 cm W. 80 cm D. 40 cm Based on the cast-iron escutcheons adorning Paris metro entrances and forming the basic modules surrounding the outside flights of steps. Commissioned by the forerunner of the RATP, the CMP (Compagnie du chemin de fer métropolitain de Paris), this economical, typically Art Nouveau modular system appeared around 1900 and is still part of our urban landscape today. In the 1930s, this module was the subject of a photograph by BRASSAI (1899-1984), held at the Centre Pompidou (Paris) (CP inventory no.: AM2003-5 (180)).
