Based on the plaster of the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, which reproduces the original work from the late 16th century, preserved in Spain. This shield was part of the large suit of armor offered by Charles-Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy, to Philip III, King of Spain, who was then linked to his predecessor Philip II by marriage to his daughter Catherine-Michelle, Philip III's half-sister.
