Sainte Élisabeth, de face - Lot 139
Sainte Élisabeth, de face
Moulding workshop of the Museum of Comparative Sculpture (1882-1928)
Saint Elizabeth, front
Plaster, model on base
H. 87 cm W. 31 cm D. 18 cm
Based on the Visitation scene from Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral, carved in limestone around 1145 and depicting the Virgin Mary (crowned, absent here) visiting her cousin Elisabeth, who is pregnant with Jesus and John the Baptist respectively. Curiously, our part of the mold allows us to restore the subtlety of Elisabeth's gaze, her head almost touching that of her cousin in the original sculpture.
Period of manufacture and use of models on base: 1900-1960
Outdoor display possible: no
Condition: missing, damaged, marks
Type of mold in relation to model: fragment face
