Tête de Vitellius Moulding workshop of the Musée du Louvre (1794-1882) Head of Vitellius Plaster H. 61 cm W. 40 cm D. 27 cm Based on the original work in the Musée du Louvre (Paris). An Italian production dated circa 1500, our original is a free imitation of an antique bust probably found in Rome, bequeathed by Cardinal Domenico Grimani to the Republic of Venice in 1523, now in the Archaeological Museum of Venice. This bust has been compared with a reference to an antique imitation of the Vitellius of Venice created before 1583 in Rome by the sculptor Alfonso LOMBARDI (1497-1537) for Cardinal Ippolito de' Medici.
