Tête de la Vénus dite « du Capitole » Moulding workshop of the Musée du Louvre (1794-1882) Head of the Capitoline Venus Plaster H. 60 cm W. 45 cm D. 35 cm Based on the Roman "Capitoline" type, the most famous example of which is kept at the Musei Capitolini (Rome). We have here only the head of this modest Venus, whose model was first given by Praxiteles in the 4th century B.C., with his Aphrodite of Cnidus. Our model has a more elaborate hairstyle than the famous Cnidian example - as our plaster cast clearly shows. Musei Capitolini inventory no.: inv.
