Based on an original work in the Musée du Louvre (Paris), dating from the Ptolemaic period (332-30 BC) and depicting seated Imhotep holding a papyrus scroll, a key figure in ancient Egypt and architect to King Djoser. This small basalt sculpture came from the collections of the famous finance superintendent Nicolas Fouquet, and later from the painter to King Louis XIV, Charles Le Brun.
