Beautiful original decal by Jeannette Tanguy (1896-1977).
One of the few known original works by Yves Tanguy's wife, Jeannette, née Ducrocq. In all likelihood, it was made in the spring of 1936, when her husband experimented with the technique in Marcel Jean's studio.
It bears a signed autograph letter to Dr. Ferdière on the back: A mon grand ami Gaston / Ferdière, en qui j'ai grande / confiance / de tout coeur, / Jeannette Tanguy.
Psychiatrist Gaston Ferdière (1907-1990), now famous for his treatment of Antonin Artaud at the Rodez Asylum, had befriended the Tanguy couple during his internship at Sainte-Anne from the same year, 1936. Edges slightly frayed.
