Dédé SUNBEAM. Untitled. Circa 1925. - Lot 193
Dédé SUNBEAM. Untitled. Circa 1925.
Collage and ink on paper (32 x 24.4 cm)
Superb original collage by Dédé Sunbeam, meteor of early Surrealism.
Abstract composition mixing colored pencil and ink drawings with pieces of paper, two of them with text printed in the center, and two autographed texts: 350 kilomètres de la terre à la lune en passant par les étoiles et mer petits morçots de papié,,,,,,,,?!;
Take this is my blood, it doesn't get any better.
The identity of the artist behind the picturesque synonym remains one of the enigmas of the history of Surrealism: "Arriving at the Bureau de recherches surréalistes on Rue de Grenelle at the end of 1924 [...] he would have his new friends believe that he was a 'worker'. In fact, it seems he was more of a "marginal" with no precise social status.
"marginal" with no precise social status, who, after three of his drawings (numbers 2, 3 and 7) and one of his "surrealist texts" (number 5) were published in the Révolution surréaliste, disappeared from the group's horizon as strangely as he had appeared. [...] Apart from the drawings published in Révolution surréaliste (and another later found in a private collection), no work by this passer-by is known" (Dictionnaire général du surréalisme et de ses environs, 1982, p. 387).
Galerie 1900-2000 stamp and certificate signed by Aube Ellouet attesting that the work comes from André Breton's collection.
