Friedrich SCHRÖDER-SONNENSTERN. Schaukeline und ihr Hecht. 1 - Lot 186
Friedrich SCHRÖDER-SONNENSTERN. Schaukeline und ihr Hecht. 1962. Colored pencil on paper, signed and dated lower right, titled lower left (51 x 73 cm), framed. Imposing original colored pencil drawing by German outsider artist Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern (1892-1982). "As far as the fine arts themselves are concerned [...] I have not been able to discover any post-war German work that has not been skilfully fabricated after consulting recent American or French page-turning magazines. In short, all I saw was the "economic miracle". Far behind this unpromising backdrop, however, I came across a personality, that of a man in his mid-sixties, solitary, living visibly on the margins, whose obsessive, almost suffocating intensity, both in works and words, imposed itself on me without any inner restrictions, and for whom I conceived an admiration which, from 1953 onwards, never ceased to grow" (Hans Bellmer in EROS catalog). Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern's life was punctuated by arrests and internments. It was in a psychiatric asylum that he was introduced to painting by Hans Ralfs in the post-war years. He soon received the support of gallery owner Rudolf Springer; collected as early as 1955, he took part in the EROS exhibition at Galerie Cordier in 1959. Provenance : Galerie 3+2, Paris. Daniel Filipacchi. Reproduced in Panderma magazine, No. 5, Basel, 1958.
