Yves LALOY. Untitled. - Lot 135
Yves LALOY. Untitled. Oil on canvas, signed lower right (65 x 100 cm). Abstract composition characteristic of the work of Rennes artist Yves Laloy (1920-1999). In Le Surréalisme et la peinture, André Breton underlines Laloy's proximity to Navajo art: "Whereas a Kandinsky composition responds to symphonic ambitions, a painting of Navajo sand is above all a matter of cosmogonic preoccupation, and tends to influence, in a propitiatory way, the course of the universe. What makes Yves Laloy's work so distinctive is that it is one and the same. What he relates is an itinerary to which he holds the key, but which we have no trouble discovering transcends common experience. The relationship between the human soul and the cosmos is constantly provided with a sparkling, magnetized egret. What's more, the irresistible rhythmic impulse that gives it momentum and infallibly carries it along in its entirety is enough to impose its greatness from the outset" (Breton, OEuvres complètes IV, 2008, pp. 658-659).
