[SURREALIST GAME]. Communicated drawing game. No date. 9 sig - Lot 129
[SURREALIST GAME]. Communicated drawing game. No date. 9 signed drawings mounted in a frame.
The first drawing is signed by Benjamin Péret: it shows a bottle with an eye and an ear-shaped corkscrew above it.
Successive interpretations of this original drawing are by : Pirouette, Flora Acker, Nicolas Calas, Remedios Varo, André Breton, Yves Tanguy, Pritzel [?] and Georges Hénein.
"The game of communicated drawings began towards the end of 1938 and continued throughout the months of 1939 before the fatal September 1, when the French and English Marias decided to attack Hitler's Germany, which they had given plenty of time to reach the height of its power. We owe them to Robert Rius, archivist of the communicated drawings" (Noël Arnaud). When, in June 1943, Rius joined the armed resistance (he was assassinated on July 21, 1944), he entrusted the file of communicated drawings to Noël Arnaud, so that La Main à Plume could dispose of them.
They were acquired by Marcel Fleiss, who exhibited them at Galerie 1900-2000 in autumn 1999.
Provenance: Galerie 1900-2000 (catalog Jeu du dessin communiqué, Paris, 1999, pp. 13-16).
