Precious cover essay for André Breton's Anthologie de l'humour noir.
The Anthology's publication "spanned an unusual number of years. Envisaged at least as early as the beginning of 1935, the work saw its first edition, barely out of the Sagittaire presses in 1940 after some complicated editorial twists and turns, incur a ban on all distribution due to the Vichy government's Censorship, and had to wait until 1945 to finally meet, on the quiet, its first audience" (Étienne-Alain Hubert, in Breton, OEuvres complètes III, Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, 1992, p. 1746).
Reproduced in Maurice Henry, Anthologie graphique du surréalisme, p. 383 - Castro, Oscar Dominguez, no. 164.
Exhibition: Galleria Milano, Dominguez, 1969, no. 48 - Galleria Narciso, Oscar Dominguez, 1969, no. 4 - Galleria Milano, Il Caimano - Il Drago, 1987, no. 9.
