Originally published, without the preface, in 1943 by Ides et Calendes in Neuchâtel. Autograph letter to the poet Paul Eluard on the title page: A Paul, c'était // le bon temps qu'on se rencontrait // à la Gare de Lyon // et qu'on // était quatre // affectionately // Louis. This meeting at the Gare de Lyon in early 1943 was the first since Aragon's break with the Surrealists. In the tribute he read at the inauguration of the Lycée Paul Eluard many years later, Aragon recalled the event: "It was on our first trip to Paris after the landings in North Africa that, to our great and sweet surprise, we saw Nusch and Paul waiting for us at the gate of the Gare de Lyon platform. We'd never seen each other since my break with the Surrealists." Beautiful softcover binding by Antonio P. N.
