In an aesthetic break with its predecessor, the new SL features a hard top with a concave roof reminiscent of a Chinese pagoda. This highly innovative styling choice was so successful that it unofficially gave its name to the car, which became MERCEDES "Pagoda". The SL had three successive engine versions: the 230, the 250 and the 280. The "California" version appeared in March 1967. It is equipped with a mini rear bench.
